Serengeti Camping

Serengeti Camping in the Serengeti National Park is an unforgettable experience. There’s not much that can compare to hearing a lion roar from the (relative) safety of your canvas tent!

The name “Serengeti” is often said to be derived from the word “seringit” in the Maasai languageMaa, meaning “endless plains”. However, this etymology does not appear in Maa dictionaries.

SERENGETI CAMPING GETS YOU CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE MIGRATION.

A million and a half wildebeest and zebra can’t be wrong, and this camp never settles for less. This canvas home-from-home and its indomitable crew are on the move year-in, year-out from one sweet Serengeti site to another, guided by the mass movements of the wildebeest migration and their quest for ever greener grass. Along with it come our highly trained naturalist guides and all the trimmings of a classic safari.

There are nine public campsites in the Serengeti.  Six around Seronera, one at Lobo and one each at Ndabaka and Fort Ikoma gates. All have flush toilets, and two (Pimbi and Nyani, both in the Seronera area) have kitchens, cold showers and solar lighting.

There is one rest house and eight public Tanapa camps:

  • Nyani,
  • Pimbi
  • Tumbili
  • Dik Dik
  • Nguchiro
  • Ngiri
  • Kuro
  • Nyegere.

Nyani, Tumbili and Pimbi are the most popular, both overcrowded in high season and in the heart of the richest wildlife area. You will be torn between the uncomfortable, rustic and dirty sanitary facilities and the wilderness setting with the roar of the lions and the cries of the hyenas in the night.

The accommodation is suitable for both honeymoon trip, family trip, Private wildlife world class travelers who traveling to Africa on budget.

Be sure to bring toilet paper, flip-flops to get into the shower, expect cold water, bring a stove and food, a flashlight, etc. The rest house offers three very basic rooms in Seronera with mosquito nets and shared sanitary facilities in this “rest house”. Often full, suitable for individuals rather than large groups.
